Community Groups
The Big Picture:
Community Groups are a door to the life of Mosaic. We believe that we are made for community and need one another through the struggles of this world, but also to be able to celebrate as God uses us in sharing and showing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through small groups, individuals are able to explore God’s word in the context of genuine care for one another. It is within these small communities that men and women can build personal relationships and practice applying the good news about Jesus to their lives and share it in their communities. Each group expects to experience Jesus Christ in its midst, enabling participants to be transformed through mutual ministry and to experience life in the family of God.
Composed of eight to fifteen people, groups meet in homes throughout the Chattanooga area. All groups are led by lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastor (in the near future this oversight will be spread to our elected elders). Groups meet weekly for worship, Bible study, fellowship and prayer.
The primary practice of our community groups is fellowship around scripture. It is our belief that genuine community provides comfort to the weary and propels us into proclaiming the good news in word and deed. In addition to weekly fellowship around the Scriptures, many groups also participate in regular service projects or social events as we seek to be salt and light for our communities.
Our hope is that everyone who attends our church will be involved in a Community group.
Are there groups currently meeting?
Yes! We have groups meeting during the week and on Sunday following the service.
How do I join a group?
In searching for a Community Group, you may want to pick a group that meets on a night that is best for you or in a location that is convenient from your home. We suggest that you might want to try a few groups before you settle into one for the year. The leaders and hosts of the group will understand that the important thing is finding a Community Group that is best for you.
Please visit our ChurchCenter site for all of the details and to join a group. For each group you will be able to view details, such as: general format, location where your group meets, time and day of the week, availability of childcare, and whether this group shares a meal each week or not. You can contact the group leaders with any questions about their specific group. Please note, only after you join a group you’ll be able to see the exact location for where the group meets. Before joining a group it will only show an approximate location.
What will groups study?
Each group will choose it’s own study. This semester groups may choose to discuss a simple set of questions about the previous Sunday’s sermon or a reading and discussion of Paul Miller’s book A Praying Church.
